Appendices for Copyright Records
Appendices are additional documents you can add to an existing copyright record to expand, clarify, or strengthen the evidence of authorship.
Each appendix is sealed with its own blockchain timestamp, providing a verifiable record of its existence and date.
What Are Appendices Used For?
They allow you to document:
- The creative evolution of a work.
- Previous versions and stages of development.
- Additional material that strengthens authorship.
- Changes or improvements made after the original registration.
They are especially useful in cases of plagiarism disputes, copying claims, or to demonstrate historical authorship of a work.
What Types of Files Can You Add?
Music
- Demos
- Stems
- Sheet music
- Rehearsal recordings
Design and Illustration
- Sketches
- Color variations
- Mockups
- Source files (PSD, AI, SVG, etc.)
Literature
- Drafts

- Author notes
Software (as an intellectual work)
- Code snippets
- Screenshots of earlier versions
- Design documentation
Why and When to Add an Appendix?
Adding an appendix strengthens the evidence of your record, as each additional file receives its own blockchain timestamp, increasing the probative value in a legal dispute and offering better historical support for the work.
Appendices are especially useful when:
- The work evolves or undergoes significant changes.
- New evidence related to its creation becomes available.
- You need to demonstrate your creative process or development timeline.
- You want to reinforce a previous record without generating a new one.
